Yeah, I think I'd have to agree with Vito compared to Michael. Beth and I were actually discussing this the other day. Not only is he more interesting, but he's also less of a jerk, at least to his own family and associates.

I really know nothing about Part III. I'm honestly not sure where they'd go with the story after the end of II.
