Maybe, but I have to suspect it was frowned upon for children to talk that way to their elders.

I would certainly think so! But Baum's children often seemed a bit smarter and in control than those few adults who showed up. Just the same, it adds an interesting twist to Dorothy's often-called "sweet" nature.
