Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
I got this music thing from
jenhime:
Random 10:
1. The dB's - Spitting In The Wind
2. The Mountain Goats - Alpha Rats Nest
3. James Kochalka Superstar - Kitty In A Coma
4. They Might Be Giants - Cabbagetown (demo)
5. Andy Partridge - Smalltown (demo)
6. Andy Partridge (yes, again) - This Is The End
7. Belle and Sebastian - Cover (Version)
8. Monks of Doom - The Insect God
9. Frank Black and the Catholics - New House Of The Pope
10. Ben Folds Five: One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces
1. What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
It looks like 5177 songs, and 15.1 GB. I've been putting on a lot of CDs as of late.
2.The last CD you bought is:
Fastbacks - Win, Lose, or Both
3.What is the song you last listened to before this message?
Well, I was listening to a few Neko Case songs before starting the random thing. Right now, I'm listening to "Port Moody," by Carolyn Mark.
4. Write down five songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
(This is a combination of both categories.)
TMBG - It's Not My Birthday (my perpetual favorite TMBG song, for several reasons)
Neko Case - Guided By Wire (I've been listening to that one a lot recently. Not quite sure why that song in particular.)
Fastbacks - Old Address Of The Unknown (This song just really grabbed me about a month ago)
XTC - Outside World (because knowing what's going on in the world makes me kind of depressed)
Pixies - Velouria (I heard this the other day and remembered how much I love it. One of my favorite songs of all time.)
5. Who are you gonna pass this stick to (three persons and why)?
Oh, I want everyone on my friends list to do this. Because I like to be a trendsetter, rather than a follower. Wait, I AM following someone. Oh, well.

I can see why they did the Dance Mixture, even though I'm pretty sure that was a complete joke, heh, as I can't really see much dancing being done to that mix.
Have you ever read Song Stories? There's quite a bit in there about Andy wanting to come up with a dance hit, which resulted in songs like "Traffic Light Rock" and "Neon Shuffle," and some of the Dub Experiments ("Cairo" and "The Rotary," for instance). It might have been somewhat exaggerated for comic effect, though.
I'd never heard about "Knuckle Down" enraging a Klansman.

I've read/got Song Stories, but it's been ages. I remember a little bit of the dance stuff, but I can't really see the Dance Mixture being an earnest attempt (or, rather, if it _is_, it's probably kinda why Andy didn't really have a dance hit, heh..). The drum track I think is a little too busy, but it _is_ cool to just basically pull out the bass riff. Perhaps that actually would make it danceable in spite of the drum track. But I don't know, I don't really dance, so..
Yeah -- in some interview, Andy mentions that he got this nasty letter about Knuckle Down from some Redneck Klansman Hick Asshole in the Southern US because it was all about how racism is bad and, Interracial Relationships Being A-OK. IIRC, the Klansman said it had a catchy beat, but if he ever saw Andy around Alabama (or wherever) he'd beat the shit out of him. IIRC, this actually pleased Andy. And I could see where it would, because I figure if you're pissing off trogolodytes like that, you're doing somethign right.
