I realize that I'm not exactly saying anything you don't already know here, but I think it's interesting how straight girls are often willing to admit their attraction to other girls, while that's generally not true for straight guys. Part of it is because our society teaches both genders that women are more aesthetically appealing. That hasn't been the case throughout all of history, as evidenced by ancient Greeks and their love of naked boys, but it's pretty ingrained in this day and age. There's also the issue of some guys being so terrified of being considered gay that they refuse to even admit that some other men are more attractive than others. I think the notoriously homophobic Bill O'Reilly said something of the sort before, but I'm not buying it because he was talking another time about how he had the hots for Mitt Romney. He didn't say it that way, of course, but it sounded like he was hinting at it. Which is weird, because Romney bears a striking resemblance to the Frankenstein monster. But maybe Bill had a thing for Boris Karloff, too.

I'll admit that I'm not sure what guys I'd list as attractive. My stock answer is usually Damon Albarn, especially in the early days of Blur. I also have kind of a weird attraction to Andy Partridge, although that one isn't really based on looks. I don't think a threesome with the two of them would be a good idea, though, as there was enough tension between them when Andy tried to produce Modern Life Is Rubbish.

I've heard that it's common among straight women to be attracted to Angelina Jolie, which I can't really say I understand. I've also come across Olivia Wilde as an answer to that question, which I can see more. I guess there's a reason her character on House is bisexual. Hey, girls, you're always complaining about how so many guys only want to date skinny girls, and then admitting that you'd go for two of the skinniest chicks in Hollywood! What's with that? (Yeah, I realize it might well not be the same girls in these two categories. Honestly, it's a pretty crappy joke, but I'm keeping it in anyway.)

Earlier today, I reflected how many Being Human fans who are straight guys really like the character George, played by out actor Russell Tovey. (The guy is an amazing actor...) Maybe we're all a little queer...

I'm not sure anyone is totally straight or totally gay, regardless of what they might want us to think. It's more of a spectrum than an either/or situation (which I guess makes the rainbow an appropriate symbol in more ways than one).

Angelina Jolie, really? I always thought that was the woman other women always picked as the one they (we) thought GUYS would find most attractive.

Your skinny woman comment is interesting, especially because the one celebrity woman I claim to have a crush on, Karen Carpenter, died of the skinny obsession! Although it's only her voice I find attractive, so that's coincidence. When I actually see actresses, etc, that I think are pretty, they're usually Normal pretty: not glammed up, and yes, more weight than your typical starlet. Perhaps it's the women who ARE concerned about their own weight who claim the skinny women as attractive, because that's something they aspire toward themselves.

I've seen girls mention finding Jolie attractive, but I guess it's possible they were doing it to try to get guys excited. A lot of girls are that way, after all.

I think you're on to something there. I remember Beth telling me that one of her cousins who had body issues found Fiona Apple attractive, and compared to her Jolie and Wilde are regular porkers.

Although he's never spoken of it, I think my husband has a boycrush for Jude Law. So do I. Have a boycrush on Jude Law, I mean.

Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Heck, I have boycrush on Jude, and I'm not even a boy.

Jennifer Jason Leigh - is she the lady with the magnificent natural breasts who stars in the embarrassing drama, "The Ghost Whisperer?"

That same gal was in "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and the camera kept, um, accidentally focusing in on her decolletage. It was hysterical! I can almost hear the director yelling, "More titty, dammit, MORE TITTY!"

I never much cared for JLH, but I feel bad for her now because people are saying she's fat, when she's a friggin' size two. I love how this page poses the question "Fat or Hot?" (http://101cafe.com/jennifer-love-hewitt.php) What, she can't be both or neither? As bad as the media obsession with skinniness is, I think it's even worse when someone starts out skinny and then puts on a little (usually very little) weight. And hey, I have no complaints about her butt in that picture.

yeah, I thought that whole thing was ridiculous. Fortunately, so did she, and told "them" so in no uncertain terms. Don't know much about her, but she seems to be smart...

AAHhhh. Her! I would never have conjured that actress up from her name alone, I fear. She's a cute lil thing, isn't she? According to IMDB, Vic Morrow's child.

Yes, very definitely Vic Morrow's child. It really shows in her face in Dolores Claiborne.

I forgot to add, that excerpt from Georgia was apparently thoroughly researched, though unwittingly so. Her sister had a horrible drug problem for years, and JJL was on the other side of the sister dynamic, apparently. Or so I read in an interview with her at the time of the movie.

A Walk on the Wilde Side

Ms. Wilde looks blank to me, like there is no "There" there, but that's just my reaction. Ms Jolie looks like trouble, like a prototypical bad girlfriend, a crazy ride, someone only a masochist could love.

I have no idea why they strike me this way, but they do. Maybe women who are claiming they would do Jolie are translating a love of bad boys onto a bad girl?

Could be. She's always come across as crazy to me, but I guess some people are into that.

Beth once said Wilde had kind of a doll face, which she doesn't remember saying, but I think fits the woman. I can see how that could come across as blank. She also wears a lot of makeup, so it's like we're not seeing much of her actual face.

I've seen several other women described as doll-faced, but it really varies for me whether that works. I don't think I've ever seen Amanda Seyfried actually act, but I think she's pretty, and she's been described as having a doll-like face.

On the other hand, I find Christina Ricci's doll head kind of off-putting.

Maybe it all depends on the sort of doll?

Angelina Jolie always looks mad or blank and souless to me. I don't like her at all honestly :P

I can definitely see that. It seems like there's a significant part of the population that likes girls with blank expressions, but I'm not one of them. Whether you're modeling, acting, singing, or whatever, enthusiasm is the key for me. Not that I like everybody who's enthusiastic, mind you, but seeming like you're not really into what you're doing is usually a dealbreaker for me.

I find myself wondering about this lately because I'm trying to write realistically male characters. My gay and straight male buddies tell me that there really is no such thing as a truly bisexual male. That most of the guys who sleep with both are just working on figuring out which they really prefer.

Likewise I've noticed bi guys in fiction are most often written by women.

Meanwhile it does appear that women who will happily sleep with both do actually exist. I don't know if it's a conditioning issue, or more of the biological imperative to build strong bonds or what...

I think there's a lot of conditioning on both sides. For men, the "you're either gay or straight" concept is so prevalent that guys are reluctant to admit when they're attracted to someone outside their typical preference. On the other hand, I've heard of plenty of straight girls who claim to be bisexual because they think it's trendy and will attract guys.

Likewise I've noticed bi guys in fiction are most often written by women.

Could that be because guys are so conditioned to think that there are no bi men that they're reluctant to even write about them in fiction? Maybe not, but it might be worth considering.

A lot of my Sims, both male and female, are bi, but that has no direct relevance to the issue. {g}

I'm curious about the conditioning aspect, because history gives us plenty of examples of men who slept with both, but unfortunately is rather quiet on what their actual preferences on the matter was. Did our Roman Patriarch known for both his boyfriends and wife enjoy both, or was it a matter of making sure he had heirs?

Personally, I'd prefer that bi guys actually exist, because as a woman I really think the idea is hot. But, at least in my immediate circle, there are no bi guys, just gay ones that slept with women for a while because it was expected. Or straight ones who slept with guys because there was nothing else available. The guys in both groups would not pick whichever their less preferred gender was if given the option.

I used to have a girlcrush on Angelina Jolie, back ten or so years ago, before she became all orphan-obsessed, heh. It was probably due to the movie Foxfire, and yes, also because she seemed crazy. ;)

In recent years, my two main girlcrushes have been Christina Hendricks and Kate Winslet, both of whom have been called fat on the internet . . . BY MORONS. Heh.

I have to wonder what world people are living in to consider people like Hendricks and Winslet fat. Have they, like, never seen anyone who WASN'T a celebrity, or what? Do they spend all of their time at the eating disorder clinic?

And really, with Christina Hendricks, when you have hair and breasts like hers, I would think it's almost irrelevant what the rest of her looks like. Just so long as she's not, like, a torso on an octopus body or something. {g}

For dudes: David Byrne. He is totally sexy. Bowie, too, actually.

For ladies: I am totally crushing on Christina Hendricks, which is funny, as I don't really watch Mad Men. But dang, she is pretty.
